The Hamilton Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) launched a new program on February 1, 2023. The Merchant Beginnings Program provides an opportunity for retail entrepreneurs to gain knowledge, experience and confidence before making the BIG decision to open a full-time retail location. The new program allows an individual to display their product creatively, in a ten-foot by ten-foot retail-type space, in the HEDC office, located at 108 N Bell Street. Pedestrian traffic can see the display, providing an opportunity for anyone to enter the office to take a closer look at the product and make a purchase.
Chelsea West's Knot Cordinary business was chosen as the inaugural merchant business to launch the program. Chelsea’s hand-made macrame pieces with a modern feel started to gain attraction within her own network. Chelsea experienced an amazing turnout at her first market and realized others saw the beauty in her knot art and she realized she could turn this into her own business.
Knot Cordinary is slated to remain in the space until June 1, 2023. This will provide Chelsea with data, experience and knowledge that will allow her to grow the business and assess the next steps.
Entrepreneurs that are interested in the Merchant Beginnings Program should contact Jamie LaDuke at email@example.com or 254-386-5954. Come by the office Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to see Chelsea’s knot art and ask about other programs and grant opportunities the HEDC offers.
